1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how your personal data is collected, used, and protected when you use the Network Infrastructure Trainer mobile application ("NIA," the "App"). It is a standalone policy that applies only to the App and not to any other product.
We process your data in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and other applicable data protection laws.
In short: NIA is a training and self-assessment app. We collect the minimum data needed to run the App reliably, keep it secure, and improve it. We do not sell your personal data.
2. Who We Are (Data Controller)
The data controller responsible for your personal data is:
- Name: Dumitru Vasiliu
- Support email: [email protected]
- Postal address: 39 Spearpoint Gardens, Aldborough Road North, Ilford, Essex, IG2 7SX, United Kingdom
Support correspondence for NIA is handled by Dumitru Vasiliu via the [email protected] inbox, which is operated as part of the TimrX portfolio. The App is an independent product; TimrX is the portfolio under which it is published.
3. Data We Collect
3.1 Information You Provide
- Account details (if you create one): email address and a display name
- Support communications: the content of any message you send to [email protected], including your email address
3.2 Data Generated by Using the App
- Learning progress: modules completed, assessment scores, answers, and streaks
- Preferences: settings such as notifications and display options
3.3 Automatically Collected Information
- Device & diagnostic data: device model, operating system version, app version, and language
- Crash & error reports: optional technical logs generated when the App crashes or misbehaves, used to fix bugs (via Sentry; can be turned off in the app's About screen)
What we don't collect: NIA does not request access to your contacts, photos, precise location, or microphone, uses no advertising or analytics SDKs, and does not track you across other companies' apps and websites.
4. How We Use Your Data
We use your personal data to:
- Provide the App and save your learning progress and preferences
- Diagnose crashes and fix bugs to keep the App stable
- Respond to your support requests
- Comply with our legal obligations
5. Legal Basis for Processing
Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Contract performance: processing needed to deliver the App's core features to you
- Legitimate interests: keeping the App secure and stable, fixing bugs, improving the product, and optional crash diagnostics (Sentry) — which you can turn off at any time in the app's About screen
- Legal obligation: where we must process data to comply with the law
6. Third-Party Services
We use a small number of trusted service providers ("processors") that process limited data on our behalf:
- Apple App Store / Google Play: handle app distribution and the one-time purchase. Payment and billing data is processed by Apple/Google under their own privacy policies — we never receive your full payment card details.
- Sentry: optional crash and error reporting, used to detect and fix faults in the App. Can be turned off in the app's About screen.
- Cloud hosting: stores account and progress data where an account is used.
Each processor is bound by a data processing agreement and may only use your data to provide their service to us.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We only share it:
- With the processors listed above, strictly to operate the App
- Where required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights and the safety of users
- As part of a business transfer (e.g. merger or acquisition), in which case we will notify you
8. International Data Transfers
Some of our processors are located outside the UK (for example, in the United States or the EU). Where data is transferred internationally, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, Standard Contractual Clauses, or an adequacy decision recognised by the ICO.
9. Data Retention
- Account & progress data: kept while your account is active; deleted on request or after prolonged inactivity
- Crash & diagnostic logs: retained for up to 90 days, then deleted or anonymised
- Support emails: retained for up to 2 years from your last contact
If you use the App without an account, your progress is stored only on your device and is removed when you uninstall the App.
10. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected] and we will respond within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
11. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, and limited retention. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Children's Privacy
NIA is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date, and where appropriate we will notify you within the App.
